Welcome to A.W.S.U.M, the heart of service user involvement in Wales
Service User Involvement in Wales is now an organisation, The All Wales
Service User Movement. At the heart of it is aw-sum.org. If you have just started treatment or you are well on the road to recovery. If you are on harm reduction, abstinent or if you haven’t decided yet - this site is yours. Please post experiences - good, bad or worse, ask your questions, and ask for help and advice from fellow users. And, you don’t have to use your real name if you are afraid that something you say might affect the treatment you receive.
Remember this is also for family, carers and supporting friends. They also suffer from addiction and deserve to have their say and express their view of treatment. You will need to register (you can do so anonymously) so that you can use certain features, for instance, posting blog entries.
Please support your site - by encouraging all service users, family and carers to register.
At aw-sum.org you will be amongst your peers, we do not judge, as we are all equal.
Remember if the only way that you wish to contribute to service user involvement for now is on this site, that still makes you a member. We are the voice for all service users, their family and carers in Wales. 'Nothing about us without us' is a service user’s motto. Give us the words to speak!
A.W.S.U.M - Our main objective
At local and regional level we should by now be combining our knowledge and experiences, good, bad or worse, of having used drug and alcohol treatment services with those who provide them in order to create better services. This is our opportunity to do so at a national level.
We already have a service user who acts as our representative to the Welsh Assembly. So the system is already there for us to act as a voice through aw-sum.org and take the broad consensus of service user’s opinion to the Welsh Assembly. This way we can and will achieve quality and equality in treatment services throughout Wales.
Join us, and together we can help to improve the journey through treatment year on year and make sure that treatment works for us and those that follow.
